it's in your nature

This old tusker - maybe my age - deserves to be back in the picture.

For those who want to know what said - keep the sound low! Here follow the "lyrics"
ALL OF A SUDDEN - THERE HE WAS in Djuma and on WE. On Oct 26th 2009. Was it an apparition - was he real? That one afternoon in the haze?

Inspiration from Pieter "the stories he could tell" and Lieschen "tender cam work"

THOSE WERE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES...... F Mercury/queen

This guy has seen it all before.
The tales this 50 odd year old bull could tell!

Aaaah.... his infancy, born to nobility of the matriarch of the famly group. Spoiled silly by his doting mother. The waxing years going too quickly perhaps...getting into trouble a little too often, until that fateful day....

Oh..... the junior years after mom sent him packing, when he had finally stepped over the edge in showing off and injured his little brother.

Then wandering in the bush with some buddies, telling tall tales of ambition yet to be fulfilled.

The testing of his skills with his companions - who would later become rivals. Some falling along the way.

The battles to cool his hormones.

Finally the rewards of proving himself to be the DOMINANT MALE in the area.

MULILUANE, MULILUANE they shouted.... the roars of approval.
Who knows if he ever met up with some of his famous counterparts ....

-- the undefeatable DIONYSIS
-- the mountain monster THOR
and many others
- who knows?

ALL OF AFRICA KNEW THEM and perhaps Muliluane was among them!

The many many loves in many a herd..... aaah what stories to tell!

Finally watching his many many children grow to continue his line!
His seeds are sown he has done his part in making the African elephant what it is......THE BIGGEST STRONGEST land based species there is.

Well done Muliluane!

And then....
The younger tougher rivals that finally displaced him. Oh the battles fought, the wins and then finally that fatal loss and run for cover. The winner would never have won in your prime!

And now the waning years..
....remembering and reliving his life, his triumphs, his place in HISTORY! Bravo Muliluane,

Hail this Caesar and ALL those Caesarians, long may you live.

We will meet again Muliluane, whether in this life or the next.

HAIL MULILUANE!
HAIL LOXODONTA AFRICANA!
that we may NEVER have to miss them..........................

ILP Membership Scheme

I want to walk into the office of the CEO of Mpumalanga Parks Board next week, armed with your support and confirm our help to prevent senseless killings of wild unfenced Leopards throughout the province.
Next year will be our ten year anniversary and the biggest yet for the ILP. Provincial authorities have no funds or people to tackle the issues at hand and have asked for our help. We must act now to conserve the dwindling leopard population. Time is slipping away, but we need funds to tackle the problems and mobilise a team. That is why we have put together a membership scheme. Please make a small donation (your choice, but please don't hold back), and become a member of the ILP. You'll receive regular updates from the front line of wildlife conservation and a voucher worth $380 which you can redeem against a 2010 Wildlife Safari with On Track Safaris.
Donations can be made by credit card via our UK Representatives Research Cam www.researchcam.com. All funds raised go to the ILP.

Thanks in advance

Kevin offers his support

We received a boost this week when large carnivore behaviour specialist Kevin Richardson agreed to work more closely with the ILP, offering his skills and expert knowledge to assist us with upcoming projects. As most of you will know, Kevin has been associated with the ILP for many years, since he presented In Search of a Legend - Black Leopard. After hearing of our busy schedule and need for more assistance, Kevin was quick to offer his support and expertise to the ILP team. He brings a unique insight into the behaviour of carnivores, which will dovetail well with our operations in 2010.
We face some huge challenges next year and need more support both from experts and research volunteers. Let me know if you can help.
