About Me:
Valerie is a bohemian artist who sculpts, drinks coffee and lives in the woods of Rhode Island. She sculpts figurative and fantasy art, paints, loves music, live theater, independent films & BOOKS! Free time usually finds her in bookstores, art supply shops, antique stores, or lying on her back looking at the stars. She lives with four "feral furballs" that tolerate her; a 16 year old adopted pug, four rowdy "rescued" Rhode Island Red hens, three amazing kids that are grown now, and three little men who call her "Greenie", lol.
She prefers to be outdoors, in the woods, on a mountain, sitting by a fire, and far away from concrete, cities and people.

Trees have been sacred for thousands of years in all cultures, however, its only in the last few hundred years that their importance has diminished, and their availability taken more and more for granted. Think on what they give to us and ask nothing in return. They give us shelter, food, fuel...and air. Our existence on Earth is interconnected with these magnificent beings. And...it is in that spirit that I began to paint faces using the beautiful leaves in my area. I start out with an idea in my mind, but inevitably the leaf decides what it wants instead. Valerie

Hello again! Just checked out your website and see another thing in common! When my dad decided to sell the dairy herd, he converted the barn to 3 floors of chickens! We had 1500 chickens back in the late 50's when most farmers thought a flock of 50 was a large number! Had Rhode Island Reds, Black Australorp, and White Leghorns. And I have a gold covered leaf from Hawaii that my brother who lived there nearly all of his adult life gave me one year for Christmas. Still one of my favorite pendants!

Hello! I don't have any sisters, but I think we could be kinfolk! I grew up on a farm with over 300 trees and climbed everyone. Mom was not too pleased when I came in with pitch on my clothes! I built 3 tree houses. One was 3 levels. Practically lived in a tree in the summer! Another thing we have in common is books! When I was 9, we had a really bad winter with tons of drifting snow, long driveway and went to live in an apartment in town from Dec-March. I was thrilled! I could go to the library every day! Librarian said I could only check out 2 books at a time. I would bring them back the next day! Finally, she let me take as many as I wanted! Seems we have music in common also. I am a drummer and my now ex husband has 8000 records and a juke box. I have 4 grown children and 5 grandchildren and love (most) animals and nature. Love what I have learned about Africa by watching the drives!

Hello Valerie - hope to get to know you and your grand kids better! Had to run to FCC to tell Pieter to make the announcement - he adores children. Enjoy the drives.

ILP in the USA

Along came Deb Weston.
We've been hoping to find someone to help with our social networking in the USA for a while, then along came Deb Weston.
Deb has been a supporter of the ILP for quite a while and came over to meet the team in Africa a few weeks ago. I'm pleased to announce that Deb has graciously offered to assist with social networking and fund raising for the ILP in the USA. So if you are in the USA, get in touch with Deb and let her know you are out there and care for the plight of wild leopards.

As most of you know, Kirsty Lynas has been working hard on social networking for the ILP in the UK ever since she finished her five month spell as a volunteer with us earlier this year.

Kirsty is continuing to work for us from the UK and co-ordinating with Deb who will cover the USA. Kirsty is also now managing the ILP membership scheme. All of those who have joined so far will be able to receive insider knowledge from Kirsty on a regular basis.

On that front, we need more folks to join the ILP membership scheme and soon, if we are to have any chance of saving the lives of Leopards. Sound dramatic? Well, a leopard was illegally shot this week and we were unable to prevent it.
That's one less leopard in the rapidly diminishing gene pool. If we all don't act soon there will be no leopards left in wild area's. That's no idle statement, our model shows a huge decline in the wild population. The genetic tipping point will come very soon, after which there will be no recovery. Please join the ILP membership scheme, we need your help.

ILP Membership Scheme

I want to walk into the office of the CEO of Mpumalanga Parks Board next week, armed with your support and confirm our help to prevent senseless killings of wild unfenced Leopards throughout the province.
Next year will be our ten year anniversary and the biggest yet for the ILP. Provincial authorities have no funds or people to tackle the issues at hand and have asked for our help. We must act now to conserve the dwindling leopard population. Time is slipping away, but we need funds to tackle the problems and mobilise a team. That is why we have put together a membership scheme. Please make a small donation (your choice, but please don't hold back), and become a member of the ILP. You'll receive regular updates from the front line of wildlife conservation and a voucher worth $380 which you can redeem against a 2010 Wildlife Safari with On Track Safaris.
Donations can be made by credit card via our UK Representatives Research Cam www.researchcam.com. All funds raised go to the ILP.

Thanks in advance
