WE, FELIX & ME

I'm feeling somewhat sad tonight. Summer vacation has ended for me. No more 'camping out' in the tent in the living room because the skeeters are bad out in the garden, making smores in the fireplace, the shared safaris and silly jokes, bouncing on the beds, board games, gardening, cake baking and making those meat balls for our spaghetti dinner. All that and more has been put on hold. My beloved grandson Felix started school again today.

Some of you will remember him joining the game drives. H… Continue

A NOVEL WAY TO BREAK A DATE!

" I'm going to be late picking you up. There's a monkey in my apartment!"
Thus began my upward spiral into my addiction to all creatures great & small.

Long ago on a warm summer night I was all dressed up with someplace fancy to go - the evening went something like this: (Phone ringing)
"Hello"
"Uh Theresa I'm going to be a little late picking you up..well maybe really late!"
"Ok this better be good."
"Well, It's like this. I got out of the shower and found a monkey in my apartment. He came… Continue

Seasons Greetings:

Well here is my bit.

At least I am saving some trees, jet fuel, trucking fuel, errosion. nasty chemicals from paper making and inks etc etc by not sending "real" cards.
Personally I think "real" cards should be discontinued by choice. What a waste of resources, millions of cards from millions of people.
In the days of post only communications - it was fun to send/receive cards.
But what a terrific justification for Internet - to save all those resources and waste by sending "E" cards.

It is the thought that counts not the physical bit of paper and ink. But this is just my opinion. No bans from me!

Have a fun Xmas break and a great new year.

Bo turns up after three weeks

We had been quite concerned about Bo, who you may remember is a two year old male leopard who we are tracking via a GPS collar. We hadn't received any uploads from Bo's collar for three weeks and to say the least we were getting worried. However he has turned up alive and well and as you can see, he's been a busy boy. The collar stores data and uploads at set times if he is in cell phone range. Thankfully he has moved back into cell coverage. Our thanks to Lela and other ILP members who have been tracking Bo from their homes and keeping us updated. We don't always have a good Internet connection here in the bush, and rely on help from our friends. You can also join the ILP and help us track research animals.

Susan joins the ILP team

We have a new member of the ILP team. Susan Belling has joined us to help with our work in conservation. Susan is a qualified Game Ranger and has recently been leading overland Safaris through main land Africa. Susan wants to pout something back into conservation and has decided to work full time with the ILP. She has been training with Gerrie and Anton over the last weeks, investigating leopard issues on local farms and tracking leopards via telemetry. She is now joining Anton on her first Black Leopard investigation at the Dalton Trust in KZN. Where she will be putting her training into action under the supervision of head researcher Anton. If you would like to welcome Susan then you can become a fan by selecting the link below.
