That photo was taken in Wolong, China, at the Wolong Giant Panda Reserve. Sadly, the reserve was badly damaged in the terrible earthquake they had in that reason over one year ago.
I was there in April, 2006 for two days, as part of a three-week trip to China with the San Diego Zoo Giant Panda Tour group. We each were able to hold a cub or play with one for about five minutes. It was a wonderful surprise because we weren't told about it until we were there at the reserve.
"My cub" was a male, less than a year old. He weighed about 50 lbs. The keepers kept giving me apple slices to feed him and I whispered mantras in his ear. He love both the apples and the mantras and kept kissing me in between bites of the apples. LOL
It was a real highlight of all my travels. I've been to China for times, including three weeks living and teaching conversational English to students in a rural farm village in September, 2007. I love China and the wonderful people I met there. They are very kind and friendly.
Well here is my bit.
At least I am saving some trees, jet fuel, trucking fuel, errosion. nasty chemicals from paper making and inks etc etc by not sending "real" cards.
Personally I think "real" cards should be discontinued by choice. What a waste of resources, millions of cards from millions of people.
In the days of post only communications - it was fun to send/receive cards.
But what a terrific justification for Internet - to save all those resources and waste by sending "E" cards.
It is the thought that counts not the physical bit of paper and ink. But this is just my opinion. No bans from me!
Have a fun Xmas break and a great new year.
Gotcha!
Have great evening!
