About Me:
I originated the cameras on the Hornby Island Eagles and have now written a book, "The Eagles of Hornby Island" published by Hancock House Publishers.
Hi, I appreciate that a number of people made welcoming comments when I first joined Wildearth. I didn't respond because I didn't know how to. I'm hopeless at computer tasks. On Hancock Wildlife Discussion Forum, which I have been associated with for three years, I just learned to post comments in the last few weeks. What I really enjoy is reading the comments made by the participants - which I do constantly on the Hancock Wildlife Forum. This is what I hoped to be able to do on the Wildearth Forum, but again, I don't even know how to connect with such a forum, if there is one.
Like everyone else, I am so pleased the Hornby eagles have now laid two eggs and hope both eggs hatch successfully. I am also curious about how many years eagles can still reproduce. I don't think many people have had the opportunity to observe one family of eagles for 20 years running and maybe for longer. Doug

Welcome Doug. Thanks for the cameras. I took photos of Hornby Island today - from Qualicum Beach. What a gorgeous day we had. Love Hornby, BTW.

Hello and WELCOME, Doug! As an avid EAGLE addict/watcher/ lover and s'capper at HWF, I want to THANK YOU for opening up your 'home' to us, and for all the countless hours you've no doubt spent working to get Ma and Pa Hornby back out to the world once again. I look forward to eggs, chicks and LOTS of EAGLE LOVE to come....THANKS!

Bo turns up after three weeks

We had been quite concerned about Bo, who you may remember is a two year old male leopard who we are tracking via a GPS collar. We hadn't received any uploads from Bo's collar for three weeks and to say the least we were getting worried. However he has turned up alive and well and as you can see, he's been a busy boy. The collar stores data and uploads at set times if he is in cell phone range. Thankfully he has moved back into cell coverage. Our thanks to Lela and other ILP members who have been tracking Bo from their homes and keeping us updated. We don't always have a good Internet connection here in the bush, and rely on help from our friends. You can also join the ILP and help us track research animals.

Susan joins the ILP team

We have a new member of the ILP team. Susan Belling has joined us to help with our work in conservation. Susan is a qualified Game Ranger and has recently been leading overland Safaris through main land Africa. Susan wants to pout something back into conservation and has decided to work full time with the ILP. She has been training with Gerrie and Anton over the last weeks, investigating leopard issues on local farms and tracking leopards via telemetry. She is now joining Anton on her first Black Leopard investigation at the Dalton Trust in KZN. Where she will be putting her training into action under the supervision of head researcher Anton. If you would like to welcome Susan then you can become a fan by selecting the link below.
