Off - Roading and it's Impact on Wildlife

Many years ago as a Voluntary Counrtyside Ranger in the UK, I was angered and horrified at the local Coucil allowing Mountain Bikes, Motor Bikes and Off Road Vehicles ( ORVs ) On the the area that I was working in.This area had been a moorland waste land. Poachers, farmers and Joe Public had for years used the area for recreation and dumping. As a result there was pollution from dumped waste. The water was polluted. Indiginous plants were becoming sparse and even rare such as heather and low…See More

Animals, Tourism and WE drives.... Some thoughts!

This morning Karula was sighted!Word spread and vehicles containing excited humans converged on her. Many people in chat expressed concern that she was being upset. The thought crossed my mind too but looking at her behaviour she appeared relaxed and quite natural.Kaiser explained that only 3 vehicles at a time could follow the leopard. Well done managers of the reserve! A rule that is sensible and sensitive to the animal's wellbeing. The animals in the reserve are used to the vehicles. They have…See More

Welcome Patrick! Some Advice for a new WE presenter

I am so pleased to hear that Patrick will be part of the WE team from now on.

Welcome Patrick!

Just a few words of Advice.

1.) Beware of the back seat Drivers on the Jika

They are harmless and usually are kept under control by Kareninva, the moderator. However at times Karen (Who seems never to go to sleep) nods off. At these times all hell tends to break out behind the driver. Passengers fall off, elbow each other and a general free for all occurs usually… Continue

Just a way of saying Thank You

Last week I came over all creative again!

After a very thought provoking drive last week I made this Video. (See below for link)

Please take the words of this song on whatever level you want. from a simple love song about a man/ woman relationship with different facets to something deeper as you associate the words with the pictures.

Since riding along on the back of the Jigga I have learned so much about South Africa.

Although so many miles away I… Continue
