1. How do I access the cams?
You can access all the Wildearth Cams at
Wildearth.tv
2. Is it "free" to watch the LIVE WildEarth streams on the
Internet?
WildEarth.tv is available FREE to all who would derive pleasure
from its viewing. The live safaris, waterhole cams, nests and all
other channels are completely free to view. There is no
subscription required and no hidden costs. In order to pay for the
ever expanding cost of bandwidth distribution, there is advertising
in the form of overlay ads served along the bottom of the
video.
3. Is this LIVE?
Yes, ALL the Wildearth cams are Live. During the live Safari Drives
on the Safari Channel, you may send questions in to
questions@wildearthsafari.tv and the Presenter
will answer you on air.
4. Where do you broadcast the Safari Drives and the Waterhole
cam from?
We broadcast from the Djuma Game Reserve in Sabi Sands, South
Africa next to the Kruger National Park. This map will show the
area of Djuma the drive vehicle traverses in:
Traversing Area
5. What are the coordinates for the area you traverse
in?
24°42'28.254"S
031°32'5.382"E
6. How big of an area do the Safari Drives traverse in?
Currently the Safari Channel traverses over Western Gowrie, which
is about 1,000 hectares (2,500 acres) in extent.
7. How large of an area do the animals have to roam freely
in?
Djuma Game Reserve is a privately owned reserve and has access to
10,000 hectares 22,000 acres. It is part of the Sabi Sands Game
Reserve in South Africa which is a 65 000 hectare 153 000 acre
wildlife sanctuary. Sabi Sands forms part of the greater 2,3
million hectare 5,7 million acre Kruger National Park. There are no
fences between Sabi Sands and the Kruger National Park.
8. Do the Presenters carry guns?
No, the presenters do not carry guns. Many of the guides in the
Sabi Sands have a rifle with them on the safari vehicle. Almost all
carry a rifle when they go on a bush walk. WildEarth has decided
not to carry rifles as WE do not think that it is necessary, nor do
we wish to create the wrong impression with our viewers.
9. Are there Tigers there?
No, Tigers are not native to South Africa but you may see Lions,
Leopards, Servals, Civets, African Wild Cats, and Caracals.
10. What other Wildlife may I see?
You can check out the Wildlife Sightings Database to see many more
of the animals/birds/insects/reptiles seen on the Safari Channel.

11. How does the signal go out from Wildearth at Djuma to the
viewers?
The video on the safari vehicle is first encoded as an MPEG2 data
stream, then COFDM modulated and transmitted via microwave. It is
received at the Vuyatela mast, where it is decoded and then sent
via fiber optic cable to the Final Control. Here it is selected by
the director (along with the waterhole cams) and then H.264 encoded
on a Wirecast PC and sent to a local Wowza server, which sends to a
second Wowza server in Europe, via a complex Internet connection
that involves microwave links to Hoedspruit and fiber optic cables
that run under the ocean from South Africa to London. This is our
main distribution Wowza server, where all the channels are
received, and from here they are sent to Justin.tv and
Zaplive.tv
12. Are you in danger while sitting in an open vehicle with some
of the more dangerous animals?
WE know to respect the animals when we are in their environment. If
we get too close, the animal will give us an indication that they
are not comfortable with our presence, and we then will allow them
more space or move off. As long as we respect these animals and
their space, we can go about the game drives in a safe and orderly
fashion without fear of the animal becoming aggressive.
13. Does the light at night on the Waterhole disturb the
animals?
No, the night camera and lighting are Infrared and the animals are
in total darkness. Only you can see the light.
14. Can Viewers send Gifts and/or Birthday & Holiday Cards
to the WE Team?
Many people have offered to post us gifts. Unfortunately when this
has occurred it costs the individual quite a lot of money to pay
the import duty on the gift. WE don’t earn that much and cannot
afford to pay the duty on gifts. The best way to get a gift to one
of your favorite WE crew is to send it to somebody that is
traveling to the location and they can physically hand it to
them.
