I recently purchased Newman's Birds of Southern Africa - a great field guide with color illustrations, descriptions and maps. Very helpful.

The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander Mccall Smith
are excellent. they are Quick reads. A Made for TV movie was shown in England in March, and just came out on DVD, it is very good for a book turned into a movie. It's not available in the United States, but you can get it through Amazon.uk. You do need to change the region setting on your DVD player to watch it.

Echo of the Elephants is awesome, there was also a documentary of the same story, a real tear jerker! but very good. On my first trip to Kenya I went to Amboseli and our guide kept talking about a "crazy lady" that lived in the bush with the elephants...he was talking about Cynthia Moss

Jersey Girl I keep picking that book up at the boostore and contemplating it ;) If you recommend I shall give it a try. The last Africa book I read was the The Poisenwood Bible. Its about a family of missionaries...long and wordy but good. I shall have to pull it off my bookshelf to give a better description of it as it has been awhile since I read it.

Ohhh - I like this group - what a great idea!
I recently read "Hannah's Dream" by Diane Hammond - it'a a lovely novel that tells the story of Hannah an elephant late in her years who's caretakers hope to get her to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. A very enjoyable book that demonstrates and confirms that elephants are a highly intelligent, sensitive, and emotional creatures. Anyone who loves Elephants will enjoy this.....
