it's in your nature

Hello Everyone,
I have seen several photos on the main page that have nice borders or other effects added to them. What program(s) do any of you use to do this sort of enhancement? Any pros and/or cons with the various programs? I have yet to dive into that aspect yet, but it looks pretty cool!

Im not sure if the borders are from the screen capture software?
I know some of them do offer it.
I can generate borders in my graphics software. Most of the software for editing your photographs offer this function as well as scrapbooking software which has lots of fun stuff on them.

I downloaded capture software for trial from CNET and Tucows and then removed them from my computer if I was not happy with the product - you can test this way. I found one I like??? name eludes me but it is only 30 dollars Cdn. and has what I am looking for.
Editing pics is a lot of fun! Most computers come with at least one editing program. If you aren't sure how to find it, right click on a photo file, choose Open With & then you should get a list of programs that open pics & at least one should be editing software. Elle is right, you can get free software easily - downloads & some digital cams come with editing software.
I mostly use MS Photo Editor, Picture It & Irfanview. If you are adding effects, you might use one program to fix the lighting & color & another for an effect. My advice is to just play around with each program, find your own style & your pics will keep getting better!
I use a graphics program called Paint Shop Pro, however, it is a program that needs to be purchased. I do know that you can try it before you buy it.

A nice FREE photo editing program where you can crop, apply filters, borders, frames, etc., is PhotoScape. :) Here is the URL where you can download the program:

I love creating pictures (haven't had much time lately with my blogs and such) and will be happy to answer any questions that I can.
I have PSP as well an older version but I love it and it has a screen capture mode. I use that and photoshop.
Wow! Sorry I have not replied to this thread, landed a job so have been busy! Thank you to everyone that has replied to this post. I think that many people come to WildEarth and see the pictures and either don't know HOW to capture them or if they do, how to manipulate them. Maybe we can start a thread that specifically lists the various programs that we all use to capture our pictures? The newbies may really appreciate the info and then they can start taking their own pictures once they know how easy it is! Thanks everyone for your imput!
I've had success with the BSR Screen Recorder, for stills as well as video captures. I then use Windows Movie Maker
to publish the mash. Lots of bells and whistles, but a good one to start with. Easy to use.
Hello!!

Another imaging / browsing program that works very well AND is free is FastStone Image Viwewer. You can get a copy at www.faststone.org

Gerry
I'm still very, very new to all of this. These were all great tips, as I was also wondering about the various editors, and who likes which one and why. Thank you all.
