it's in your nature

Hello, the WE Admin Team wanted to share a great idea with all of you, please read a note from Lisa below. Thank you for allowing us to share such a wonderful idea with all of our WEfamily Lisa...it's in your nature!

Your Story: How did you find Wildearth?

I had posted a blog asking how everyone came to become a member of Wildearth. Linda a.k.a Mother Nature and the moderators thought it would be a good idea to post it here for everyone to join in!
So tell us your story.

ok I will go first. I was actually looking around for ghost webcams ;) and as I searched I came across sites with directories of all kinds of different cams. From there I found NK and was pretty hooked but has no patience waiting for an animal to come down to the waterhole so I kept on searching all these wildlife and zoo cams until one night I stumbled across a WE drive in progress. Rexon was driving. I bookmarked and started to watch. I read the blogs and found the other forums (before ning and FB) and just as I found WE Graham got FB and ning started. that was about last February/March and I have been addict ever since ;) I cannot even imagine not having WE.

Back in April my daughter's boss and husband found out that they had to attend a conference in Johannesburg and decided to do a safari as well. They picked Djuma and went this past August. They have shared some wonderful stories about their 5 day trip to Djuma; meeting Rexon; the wonderful people at camp; the animals they got to see; and they took some awesome pictures. Ever since April I have been a nightly viewer and love every minute of it. It's a little bit of heaven.

I am an eagle cam watcher and member of eagle forums and chats.
One nest I have watched for a year is in Norfolk VA at the Norfolk Botainical Garden.
That nest had a tragic year- 5 eggs were laid, two were lost when an intruder chased the pair away for days, two more were laid- the female broke them when it appeared she was startled, - then wonders of wonders she laid one more.
That one hatched and was the cutest thing ever.He was one of the most watched eaglets.
One day one of the photoghraphers pics showed something was growing on his beak.
On May 22 he was taken from the nest and testing showed he had Avian Pox, usually fatal in birds.
He was taken to Wildlife Center of Virginia where he remains getting therapy and thriving.
While chatting one night a member mentioned WE and that it was a live Africa site.
The rest is history- I am seriously addicted.
I have learned so much about the animals, birds, insects, and flora of SA and enjoy every day and thank all who make it possible.

My story is a short story:

The link to wildearth.tv at zaplive I got from a swiss girlfriend ... I had a look at it ... wow ... and then? I can't go away ... I have to look ... every free minute ... and I love it :-)

At the chat I got the link to this site here from Lilli and now? I need more time, I think ... because 24 hours are not enough ;-) It is so wonderful to be here!

I've started watching the Hornby eagles back in /06 & belong to the Hancock forum, from there I've watched all Hancock related eagle nests & other eagle nests as well. Falcons, grizzlies, Polar bears too, I was watching Pete's Pond & Nkoho Pan but could not get on the ride to Djuma, So had to make do with looking at the pictures posted on the Hancock forum. I was ecstatic when Wild Earth changed their output. I haven't been the same since. I can only watch the afternoon drive, my morning. I have learned so much from this site. The archive is good for me to catch up on the morning drives to see what I missed.

I had been watching Pete's Pond for a little while and then I found NK and EP. I was not interested in Zoo cams and put into google 'live streaming animal cams in Africa' and up came Wildearth. WE just gets better with innovative ideas and cleaver ways to fill the gaps left by technical hitches so that all members can truly feel part of the WE community. I love the game drives and value the archive facility to be able to catch any I miss, particularly the morning drives now that here in the UK the time has moved on two hours.

I started watching Pete's Pond about a year ago and was a lurker on the forum. Someone mentioned WE on the forum, so I decided to check it out and haven't stopped watching! I am addicted and love it. I'm mainly a lurker and someday I'll get up the nerve to chat and get more involved.

I have always thought Africa was a beautiful place - plus they have Elephants! Which are my favorites. So one day while surfing the net about all things african I stumbled upon Africam and their water hole...was glued to the screen and the boards....began to notice that at certain times of the day most other viewers and posters were talking about "Almost time for the Dump", or "Did the dump happen yet"? or "I was on but since the dump I can't get back on". This really had me puzzled (I'm looking at a water hole....what dump?) I started posting questions to other board posters and someone (I think Aquila or maybe Bev or Karen in VA) hooked me up with the link to Djuma. It was so exciting....sitting in southern New Jersey and watching a lion stroll down the sandy road at 1:30am (my time). You just don't see that everyday in Jersey. Then Graham saved us all from the "dump" and now everyone can enjoy the beauty, excitement, and majesty that is the African Bush. And aren't we the luckiest folks to have such fantastic "guides" - Pieter, Rexon, Jan, Alex, Marco, Angie, Tex, etc.....Wild Earth should be broadcast in every classroom during Science class. (My nieces and nephews love it) It's so much fun you don't even realize how much you're learning! The greatest thing on the internet by far....... Jersey Girl :)

A good friend on the National Geographic forum, Mammsafari, teased us for weeks about a big surprise. The day the Camera started and the drives she told and we all hurried to get on to be awed and amazed. I have been a faithful watcher ever since!!

ILP in the USA

Along came Deb Weston.
We've been hoping to find someone to help with our social networking in the USA for a while, then along came Deb Weston.
Deb has been a supporter of the ILP for quite a while and came over to meet the team in Africa a few weeks ago. I'm pleased to announce that Deb has graciously offered to assist with social networking and fund raising for the ILP in the USA. So if you are in the USA, get in touch with Deb and let her know you are out there and care for the plight of wild leopards.

As most of you know, Kirsty Lynas has been working hard on social networking for the ILP in the UK ever since she finished her five month spell as a volunteer with us earlier this year.

Kirsty is continuing to work for us from the UK and co-ordinating with Deb who will cover the USA. Kirsty is also now managing the ILP membership scheme. All of those who have joined so far will be able to receive insider knowledge from Kirsty on a regular basis.

On that front, we need more folks to join the ILP membership scheme and soon, if we are to have any chance of saving the lives of Leopards. Sound dramatic? Well, a leopard was illegally shot this week and we were unable to prevent it.
That's one less leopard in the rapidly diminishing gene pool. If we all don't act soon there will be no leopards left in wild area's. That's no idle statement, our model shows a huge decline in the wild population. The genetic tipping point will come very soon, after which there will be no recovery. Please join the ILP membership scheme, we need your help.

ILP Membership Scheme

I want to walk into the office of the CEO of Mpumalanga Parks Board next week, armed with your support and confirm our help to prevent senseless killings of wild unfenced Leopards throughout the province.
Next year will be our ten year anniversary and the biggest yet for the ILP. Provincial authorities have no funds or people to tackle the issues at hand and have asked for our help. We must act now to conserve the dwindling leopard population. Time is slipping away, but we need funds to tackle the problems and mobilise a team. That is why we have put together a membership scheme. Please make a small donation (your choice, but please don't hold back), and become a member of the ILP. You'll receive regular updates from the front line of wildlife conservation and a voucher worth $380 which you can redeem against a 2010 Wildlife Safari with On Track Safaris.
Donations can be made by credit card via our UK Representatives Research Cam www.researchcam.com. All funds raised go to the ILP.
Paste the link below into your browser:

Thanks in advance
