it's in your nature

28/7 Telkom still seems to working on the cable and we are currently totally without a connection for our stream. We are checking what their plans are and will keep you updated.

27/7 0700: We have managed to get streaming again even though it is with a reduced quality. We hope to back fully sometime today. We are also trying to get the archives back up.

25/7 2200: No real progress on the problem. We're keeping on it but are not finding much joy with Telkom. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

25/7 0730: Still working with Telkom on resolving the problem. FSC was great, am currently preparing the videos for upload. Should be availalabe within the next couple of hours.

24/7 1330: FSC will go through. If the stream is not good WE will upload it to YouTube afterwards for all to see. Telkom/SAIX is working on rerouting our stream, but we do not know if and when this will work. More info later.

Update 2020: It is indeed a Telkom problem. Graham will try to sort it out with them tomorrow. No AM drive tomorrow, PM drive to be decided later. FSC WILL go through, if need be through our other internet line. So don't miss Will Fox of Ingwe Leopard Project!

As you will have noticed, the streaming problems have been getting progressibely worse. WE've been doing troubleshooting and at this point it looks to be a problem with our international internet line. This line is not under our direct control and WE need to work with Telkom to confirm the problem indeed lies there and then on solving it. At this point I can not give an estimate of how long or short this will take, but I will keep you updated when new info becomes available.

Thanks for the information Pete...appreciate it and the time you've put into solving this. Do the TV viewers get this too? If Canada is able to get the TV version sometime I'd like the information to help make a choice as to where to watch on the internet or on TV. Thank you.

Unfortunately this would affect any TV viewers too. WE stream one main stream from SA to Europe and from there it would be split to e.g. Zaplive and TV. But the problem we currently face appears to be where the signal leaves SA.

No all will be the same from your side.

Thanks for the update Pete. Do we need to sign into anything different if the FSC goes through your *other internet line * ?

OK...guess I'll ask the obvious question then....how come the "other" line can't be used for the drives and 24/7 until the other one can be sorted?...just curious.

That's a cost issue. Unfortunately and unlike in most other countries in the world, bandwidth in SA is extremely expensive. Using that other line, for which WE pay based on the amont of bandwidth used, all the time would bankrupt us in no time flat.

I just now, at 15h00 CAT, reset my modem and got my pic on Gowrie view. At this time it lists 45 viewers, but I have no sound nor movement..ie movement of the water.

Thanks for the up date on what's going on Pete. We just had a bad storm here today, part of my computer isn't working right, two neighbors fried theirs in this storm along with a TV and a stove! We cna't figure out where the lightning hit yet! I was at work. One of the neighbors said they were on the computer and got zapped, but not really hurt bad. Thank goodness. So looks like it hit all our houses in some way. I even had a surge protector on mine.
Hope they can find out what the problem is with what you are having. We miss all of you at WE!! Keep up the good work.

Bo turns up after three weeks

We had been quite concerned about Bo, who you may remember is a two year old male leopard who we are tracking via a GPS collar. We hadn't received any uploads from Bo's collar for three weeks and to say the least we were getting worried. However he has turned up alive and well and as you can see, he's been a busy boy. The collar stores data and uploads at set times if he is in cell phone range. Thankfully he has moved back into cell coverage. Our thanks to Lela and other ILP members who have been tracking Bo from their homes and keeping us updated. We don't always have a good Internet connection here in the bush, and rely on help from our friends. You can also join the ILP and help us track research animals.

Susan joins the ILP team

We have a new member of the ILP team. Susan Belling has joined us to help with our work in conservation. Susan is a qualified Game Ranger and has recently been leading overland Safaris through main land Africa. Susan wants to pout something back into conservation and has decided to work full time with the ILP. She has been training with Gerrie and Anton over the last weeks, investigating leopard issues on local farms and tracking leopards via telemetry. She is now joining Anton on her first Black Leopard investigation at the Dalton Trust in KZN. Where she will be putting her training into action under the supervision of head researcher Anton. If you would like to welcome Susan then you can become a fan by selecting the link below.
