If the ad could be just slightly lower on the screen we would still see it but it wouldn't be so distracting. We all understand the need. Thank you. Joan

If the ads could be lower on the screen so it doesn't interfere with a good screen scape.or a lot smaller. I know they are a nessessity

I absolutely understand the need to have sponsors. I am just wondering why the ad has to pop up across the bottom of what is already a very small window? I think if the "window" was larger, one might not notice the ad as much, but right now, it is very distracting.

Just to endorse other comments, we understand why ads are necessary, but perhaps lower ... very irritating and spoiling the pleasure of watching the game drives and seekpoints. Thanks

With the financial status the world is in, I completely understand WE needing to add the advertisements. That is in everyones' nature....to survive.

With these ads, comes more growth to WE.

I clicked on the X several times when I put up WE and within 5 minutes I was not getting any more ads :-)
I do see the concerns, especially with pics. I do not want my pics with ads on them either.

I too so understand the need for funds and thus sponsors/advertisers. But - and please correct me if I'm wrong - the way I understood it, the 20 (?) seconds "heartbeat intro" was implemented as a platform for commercials? In that case I would be willing to watch the ads block (and even click-thru to support the cause).
In short: Sorry, but I don't particularly like the current setup... It has cut frames out of my ellie screen caps several times already. Or is the frequent uploading to Flickr, YouTube and such included in the rates?

I think the ads will just be something that we'll get used to after time. And I truly understand the need for them after reading the blog. As WE gets bigger and more people share in the wonders of Djuma, the more expensive it gets.

I do highly recommend clicking on the Pedigree dog food ad if you see it. Some hilarious short videos. Pedigree will donate money to help dogs for every Crazy Pet video watched e.g., Helen is crazy (for Rusty the Rhino) and Esther is in love--with an ostrich named Bruno. Hilarious.

Agreed with everyone here. I'm all for it if it helps you guys out. Not to happy because I've missed a lot of great shots because the time I clicked on the "x" to remove the ad, the pic was gone. And I'm in total agreement with trying to get them a bit lower on the screen. Guess it's just something 'WE are all going to have to live with, yes, because it's in OUR nature. ;^)

Ps-And I did try what several of you suggested, and when I came back from clicking on the ad, no more ads, but the live feed froze, so had to refresh, which of course meant the ads came bac,

must be nice for those not getting the ads.....I to understnad why they are needed but they could be put lower or in a different location. Not to mention what the videos and screen captures are gonna look like.

These are only quick little ads. It's not like on TV where it goes on for minutes at a time. In this day and time it's a necessity. I don't mind at all because I love WE. It eventually will help WE make it better for all of us.

there is dead space next to the cam pic, left and right was wondering if ads couldnt go there? when in small screen mode and not on the picture. essentially its a 25 second ad very 65 seconds!? I couldnt watch today it was too much ;(. I accpet WE needs the funding but I didnt think we would get ads popping up so frequently. It will ruin one of the most important interactive tools WE has - pcitures and videos being uploaded all over the net which was the best marketing tool around. If Patti is correct and I can link several times to stop them then thats good if not Im not sure how often I will be able to watch with that kind of ad frequency on the screen. I had hoped for corporate sponsorship for WE. Again I understand the revenue is necessary and support Grahams decisions but it feels more about the ads and not the drive and this means far less drives for me at least which is very disappointing ;(.

Lisa,
I don't know if me viewing WE on a mac has anything to do with it.... when I first put WE up, the ads were non-stop and I spent a few minutes closing them. Then the ads stopped completely and I haven't had any interruptions since I turned it on 6 hours ago. (am hoping I don't jinx myself..lol)

Bo turns up after three weeks

We had been quite concerned about Bo, who you may remember is a two year old male leopard who we are tracking via a GPS collar. We hadn't received any uploads from Bo's collar for three weeks and to say the least we were getting worried. However he has turned up alive and well and as you can see, he's been a busy boy. The collar stores data and uploads at set times if he is in cell phone range. Thankfully he has moved back into cell coverage. Our thanks to Lela and other ILP members who have been tracking Bo from their homes and keeping us updated. We don't always have a good Internet connection here in the bush, and rely on help from our friends. You can also join the ILP and help us track research animals.

Susan joins the ILP team

We have a new member of the ILP team. Susan Belling has joined us to help with our work in conservation. Susan is a qualified Game Ranger and has recently been leading overland Safaris through main land Africa. Susan wants to pout something back into conservation and has decided to work full time with the ILP. She has been training with Gerrie and Anton over the last weeks, investigating leopard issues on local farms and tracking leopards via telemetry. She is now joining Anton on her first Black Leopard investigation at the Dalton Trust in KZN. Where she will be putting her training into action under the supervision of head researcher Anton. If you would like to welcome Susan then you can become a fan by selecting the link below.
