Hi!
I was checking the africam sight (live cams) and there was a sigthing of a female leopard with 2 cubs at elephant plains. Do you know who the leopard might be, or if was in fact Karula? In the picture, the cubs looked smaller than Karula's.
Thx
Hi Mwananchi, I think that was probably Salayexe and her two cubs. They are younger than Karula's cubs. Salayexe has been seen on the Elephant Plains cam before as she tends to frequent that area. Of course it could be another female. There have been quite a few that have had cubs recently but my guess would be Salayexe. :)

I was just reading the Djuma" Drumbeat" newsletter, and it made mention of the fact that Karula's boys have not been seen lately, and the rangers think the Jordaan male may have found them and killed them!! Surely that is not the case!!! Has anyone heard anything to this effect??
Hi Sharon, we just saw the two cubs yesterday on the AM May 31st drive. So I assume they are safe. :) I believe Rexon mentioned Karula had left them for a while in the drainage ditch thus they were probably not seen with her for several days. There is speculation that Jordaan may be their father so hopefully they are safe from him if he too believes that.

Thx Aquila. I am fascinated with the region and the dominant presence of leopard. It is amazing that they are thriving in the area and reproducing so well. It is truly amzing how often you have leopard sightings. What do you think attributes to their presence? Is it the terrain?
Mwananchi, I am no expert by any means. LOL That is a great question. If you watch the drives, send it in to finalcontrol@wildearth.tv and they will probably answer it for you. I'd like to know that myself. :) I do know that most all of the reserves within Sabi Sands have spectacular leopard sightings.

Aquila, I thought that we had just seen them, that's why I almost had a heart attack when I read the Djuma newsletter!!
You and me both!!! After reading the Drum Beat, I immediately checked my recordings to make sure we had indeed seen them and I hadn't dreamed it. LOL

Thanks for that info you guys! I've missed the drives for about a wk due to work and stuff and when I read that in the newsletter, my jaw dropped to the floor! Good news to hear that they were seen yesterday! **sighs in relief**!

Can anyone tell me who this is. Sabi Sands 2007.
Any word on the status of Safari? Do we know how she got her injury? Where was she seen? Thanks, Cyndi
I wonder why this isn't a current discussion? Maybe if I ask this question, there will be some replies. I am wondering if any leopard cubs are expected soon in the Sabi Sands (Wild Earth) area? I have heard about the 2 females that Karula had before these 2 male cubs were born. Is it now time that they have their own cubs?
