Thanks, Karen...being the shy, retiring person that I am, I'm ready to go. Hope the folks who have questions realize I'm exactly 12 hours behind CAT (Central African Time).

Emjay.. just take your time. This is a Volunteer Area so no demands or time frames are expected.
I will admit that I am very interested in hearing how the Mac Users have to do things differently than the Windows PC Users do, especially with the Programs used.

I have a Mac and would be more than willing to share whatever I know.
One thing I'm not able to do is record the drives and make videos. If anyone has a tip about that I'd be very grateful for the information.

It's an Apple Macintosh computer so the operating system is different than the majority of the world who use windows operating system. Things have to be done a bit differently, is all.

Hi Deb,
Do you take photos of drives and cams? Or play around with the "My Page" or Blog feature offered here at WE Network? Is it done differently with Mac Format?

And... would you like to also offer your knowledge/Tips as a Volunteer Helper for the MAC Format Helpers in here? LOL... don't want to put you on the spot, so feel free to send me a Message if you would like or have any questions. Thanks!

Deb, I think your question came before I signed on. (Just noticed I hadn't clicked FOLLOW... DUH!) If you are still wanting help to record videos of the drives, on your mac, let me know. I'll need to know what system you're running for starters... I'm on LEOPARD... see? we mac-ites were born for WE.tv. I did have to purchase an application, but it was well worth the $$. It's called SnapZ Pro X, and it's very easy to use with Quicktime OR the flash recorder (I prefer Qt cause you can pause it for stills).

Emjay, I'm also running Leopard 10.5.4. I had wondered if buying Quicktime Pro would let me record the drives? I'm going to check in to the program you recommended, thanks very much. I like the quicktime for it's pausing ability and for rewinding to double check what was said. Makes snapping those surprise moments very doable.

Also, do you use the Grab (control/shift/4) for your snaps?

This is great having a Mac area.

Hi Deb... I have Qt Pro... the big problem is that Qt picks up the "authored" status of these sites and refuses to save the movie... considers it "private property" of WE.tv (we're so moral at mac.com), so the Pro doesn't help. I think you'll like the app. I told you about. It does more than just copy... still haven't delved into all it can do.
Yes... I have "grab" set up on one of my F keys... very handy! I LOVE MY MAC! :-)

I purchased Snapz Pro X by Ambrosia which I love. I can snap pictures, videos, and can even use it to create tutorials of screen movements. It's well worth the cost. If you http://www.ambrosiasw.com and click on utilities, you can see screen shots of the program. It works with QuickTime.

New live broadcast

We have finally managed to get our live broadcast from Moholoholo wildlife rehabilitation centre working. Well there are a few problems with tree branches moving in front of the antenna which means the screen freezes every now and then but we can't chop out trees just for this broadcast. Having said that we have a plan to improve it and in the meantime we are getting some great day and night video of vultures, hyena and jackal to name just three species. Enjoy.

ILP in the USA

Along came Deb Weston.
We've been hoping to find someone to help with our social networking in the USA for a while, then along came Deb Weston.
Deb has been a supporter of the ILP for quite a while and came over to meet the team in Africa a few weeks ago. I'm pleased to announce that Deb has graciously offered to assist with social networking and fund raising for the ILP in the USA. So if you are in the USA, get in touch with Deb and let her know you are out there and care for the plight of wild leopards.

As most of you know, Kirsty Lynas has been working hard on social networking for the ILP in the UK ever since she finished her five month spell as a volunteer with us earlier this year.

Kirsty is continuing to work for us from the UK and co-ordinating with Deb who will cover the USA. Kirsty is also now managing the ILP membership scheme. All of those who have joined so far will be able to receive insider knowledge from Kirsty on a regular basis.

On that front, we need more folks to join the ILP membership scheme and soon, if we are to have any chance of saving the lives of Leopards. Sound dramatic? Well, a leopard was illegally shot this week and we were unable to prevent it.
That's one less leopard in the rapidly diminishing gene pool. If we all don't act soon there will be no leopards left in wild area's. That's no idle statement, our model shows a huge decline in the wild population. The genetic tipping point will come very soon, after which there will be no recovery. Please join the ILP membership scheme, we need your help.
