WildEarth.TV

it's in your nature

Many of you have questions that you would like answered. WE have a way for you to ask the presenters questions by emailing Final Control (finalcontrol@wildearth.tv) The director chooses which questions to ask and reads them to the presenter. However, sometimes the questions are a little difficult for the presenter to answer or they have nothing to do with what is happening on the screen. This is the place to ask those sorts of questions of the WildEarth management.

Have you considered, though I know you are more than busy, putting up a page that identifies the sounds we hear at night when no drive is going on? Some of the sounds at the water hole are amazing, but we can only guess who or what might be making them.

This is my reply to my discussion with a WEcrew member:

Thank you for your kind reply, I do appreciate it.
As you say "stay the way you are". I will, which means sad news.

All I was asking for is common courtesy, if you want to use one of my pics, I am flattered, but please ask first.
Instead, Aquila revamped the photo thread and added the complete instructions of how to use other members pics and there is no mention of being courteous to your fellow WE family.

I welcome each and every member that joined WE with a friendly hello and add a clickable community guidelines link. ..I will no longer be doing that.

I have helped many members on how to add non-WE related pics to their blogs so that they do not get mixed in with WE photos and helped them personalize their own pages and follow up with them until they are happy with their pages..I will no longer be doing that.

I am conscious of how much the WE crew does and try my best to let them know how much they are appreciated...I will no longer be doing that.

Please check out my website link on my WE page. It is a heartfelt thanks to all the WE crew which I created as a WE discussion so others could reply and add their feelings.

I comment on other members' pics, encouraging them to continue posting wonderful pics.. I will no longer be doing that.

It has become obvious to me that members like me are not really welcome on the social network. To totally ignore us and not acknowledge our feelings seems a bit unfair.

I will be slowly removing my pics, etc from my page, but I will be keeping my page in black background. When WE was setting up the zap page, Val, another moderator asked if WE could use some of my birds pics in WE's database. I was thrilled and, of course said yes. So I will remain the "way I am" and leave my bird pics up so they do not get removed from the WE database.

WE has already lost 3 members due to this and I will become the 4th.

I really do appreciate your support, but I do not think anyone else at WE thinks the way you do.

Hey Aquila I did not post anywhere that this was an argument?

Yes, Aquila, Cathy did leave because of this.... As she said in a pm to me, this was the final straw...

All of the Mods have thoroughly checked out the Option for Adding a Photo Album using "Everyone's Photos". As for the person wanting to use this function asking prior permission from each person that uploaded a photo, that is nearly impossible to do. When using the option you must either scan through over 38,000 photos page by page of thumbnails (thumbnails that are not clickable at this point to see who they belong to) or search by tag names then drag and drop the photo thumbnails you select into the album. There is no way of knowing who the original photo poster is until after the creation of the album. Only then, can the creator of the album click each photo thumbnail within the album to see which member's photo page it takes them to.

Also, Please know that all Guidelines, instructional, informational, and/or announcement threads posted are done with total agreement of all Mods.

Something to also share, Ning has options/features set up as a Social Network type of Community. Some of these options can seem confusing or not the most user friendly for all. These are options/features that Wildearth has no specific break down or control of. You can either allow these features to be used or disable them completely, unfortunately these different features can not be disabled individually for one or two specific features.

Again unfortunately, we are not able to post Notes on specific pages or along with different feature options to help explain any thing. Yes, this would be great if it were an option and would help us in many ways, but it is not, so we have had to try and work with what we do have and try and explain things along the way.

It is very unfortunate that so much confusion and misunderstandings have happened due to some of the features over time, but the way Ning is set up as being a Social Community, they wish to encourage people to get together with the many different types of features.

Im not being given a chance to click the drive feed it just shuts off and I have to start again. this is a problem for me as then I am flooded with over 35 ads and more sometimes before the ads subside. By the time they do stop I have to restart the feed again. So essentially I am back to watching an ad every other minute on the screen. I had been cooperative and content even clicking on ads here and there as they subsided other times if left alone. For me the feed has become unbearable. I suppose the point is I must wait for a paid cable feed to come to my city one day? then I can have an ad free stream and less issues with simply watching the drive. Sometimes it feels like WE is trying to leave the internet membership and those who helped build the brand over the years behind in lieu of bigger and better things and it is becomeing disheartening.
At least let the feed run for the estimated length of a drive? 3 hours and then shut off. That leaves 21 hours of bandwidth that wont be wasted when members leave thier feeds on all day and night.

Hi Ginny,

Sorry to hear you're getting booted so often, but that is not because of the 'one hour' countdown. Even if the problem might have started around the time this was implemented it is completely unrelated and must have another cause.

Possibly something to do with your ISP or the route between our server in Holland and your home? Could you send us a tracert to see if there might be a problem there? (You can learn how to do one under the Resources tab).

Graham,

I understand the bandwidth problem but now as a registered member I get booted every 1 minute or so.... I'm missing out on very much of the game drives. May I suggested you boot off the unregistered members first. By the time I keep refreshing in order to stay on WE I've missed most of the game drive. Please come up with another solution because judging from the rhetoric in the chat rooms people don't seem too happy with it, the it is now...
Thank you for your concern in this matter-

Hi Lisa,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Are you getting shut off more than once per hour? Even quite frequently. If that is the case this is unrelated to the 'one-hour' countdown and we must look for the actual cause. Maybe there is a problem between your connection and the server in Holland. Could you do a tracert and send us the results. (You can find how to do one under the resources tab.)

How sad to see people getting their panties all up in a bunch over photo's they have the priviledge of acquiring from WE's free live drives. Or, hopefully, I am totally misunderstanding the seriously uber silly discussion here. If not, it's really quite simple; don't post yer pics on a shared social page if you don't want to share. Well, thanks for reminding me of some long forgotten Elvis Costello's lyrics anyway... "I used to be disgusted, but now I'm just amused... the angels want to steal my red gnu's"...

Pete it is more than once per hour and there is no warning time? as well I had mentioned beofre that I seem to get a disproprotionate amount of ads compared to others (Im sure it not a conspiracy ;) I will attempt a trace to see what I cxan find.

thanks

Oh boy, i see here that the Sidney nest was attacked yesterday. Now there is no camera for that nest and I have been unable to locate seekpoints for the eagles today. There was talk that an egg was due to hatch today. Do you know why the camera and the seekpoints are down?

The sidney cam problem appears to be due to a bandwidth cap on that line, but Judy will post more detailed info on the HWF forum. The other cams work, although we're still sorting out some archiving issues.

Bo turns up after three weeks

We had been quite concerned about Bo, who you may remember is a two year old male leopard who we are tracking via a GPS collar. We hadn't received any uploads from Bo's collar for three weeks and to say the least we were getting worried. However he has turned up alive and well and as you can see, he's been a busy boy. The collar stores data and uploads at set times if he is in cell phone range. Thankfully he has moved back into cell coverage. Our thanks to Lela and other ILP members who have been tracking Bo from their homes and keeping us updated. We don't always have a good Internet connection here in the bush, and rely on help from our friends. You can also join the ILP and help us track research animals.

Susan joins the ILP team

We have a new member of the ILP team. Susan Belling has joined us to help with our work in conservation. Susan is a qualified Game Ranger and has recently been leading overland Safaris through main land Africa. Susan wants to pout something back into conservation and has decided to work full time with the ILP. She has been training with Gerrie and Anton over the last weeks, investigating leopard issues on local farms and tracking leopards via telemetry. She is now joining Anton on her first Black Leopard investigation at the Dalton Trust in KZN. Where she will be putting her training into action under the supervision of head researcher Anton. If you would like to welcome Susan then you can become a fan by selecting the link below.
